Old Virginia, (painting). Artist:  Buchser, Frank, 1828-1890, painter. Title:  Old Virginia, (painting). Dates:  ca. 1870. Medium:  Oil on canvas. Dimensions:  26 3/4 x 38 1/4 in. Description:  Sunny rural scene depicting a dirt road leading back toward a clapboard house adorned with a big stone fireplace, and long steps leading toward the front porch. On the far left, a woman is seated sidesaddle on a horse as she chats with a man and a woman seated on a boulder at the foot of the steps. Descending the steps is an African American woman in a pink dress, and standing down by the edge of the road is an African American man tending to three horses hitched to a fence post. Reclining atop the fence is a young boy in a straw hat.
