Inscription:  (Sculpture, bottom of southwest corner:) Somaini/1958-70 signed Subject:  Abstract Allegory -- Element -- Energy Object Type:  Outdoor Sculpture -- Maryland -- Baltimore Sculpture Owner:  Baltimore RESCO, Facilities, 1900 Russell Street, Waste to Energy Plant, Baltimore, Maryland 21230 Provenance:  Formerly located Charles Center, Center plaza, Baltimore, Maryland Remarks:  The cost of the sculpture was $60,000. Baltimore Gas and Electric Company gave the sculpture to the citizens of Baltimore. This was the earliest corporate gift of sculpture to the city. On June 8, 1970, the sculpture was dedicated in Charles Center, an oval plaza that connects One Charles Plaza with the Baltimore Gas & Electric Company. Fifteen years later, in 1985, the sculpture was moved from Center Plaza to the new RESCO plant. The sculpture was given to RESCO by the Baltimore Gas & Electric Company and the citizens of Baltimore. The inscription on a nearby plaque reads: ENERGY/FRANCESCO SOMAINI/SCULPTOR/PRESENTED AS A GIFT/FROM/MAYOR WILLIAM DONALD SCHAEFER/THE CITIZENS OF BALTIMORE/AND/THE BALTIMORE GAS AND ELECTRIC COMPANY/TO/BALTIMORE RESCO/MAY 21, 1985.
