    Description:
Two figures carved in high relief. The standing figure represents the Greek god, Asclepius, who was known as the first physician. His proper right forearm turns into two serpents interwined, symbolizing medical science. His head is tilted downward as he looks at the figure, Pain, who is kneeling on Asclepius' proper left side. Pain leans forward with his proper left hand resting on the ground in front of him, while his proper right arm is outstretched and raised to Asclepius' shoulder. His head is tilted back and his mouth is open. Pain is sexless and has no ears, for "he hears nothing but his own cry."
