    Remarks:
The sculpture is a tribute to the nation's World War II dead. The sculpture was a project of the Archie McCord American Legion Post of Bethpage, of which the artist, a navy veteran, was a member. Donations were collected from citizens and veterans. Local residents were models for the service people: Ruth Haugen for the Wac; Robert Nicholson for the G. I.; Judith Nicholson for the Wave; and Carl Nicholson for the sailor. The sculpture contains a vault in which names of those who contributed were placed. The sculpture was carved from a Locust Valley black granite boulder. IAS files contain related newspaper clippings.
