    Description: 
    Memorial shaft has an urn on the top and reliefs, including a coat of arms, on the sides. The shaft stands on a square base.

    Remarks: 
    The monument was funded by private citizens, who raised money through performances of a dramatic club formed for that purpose, in 1865-1866. In 1867, a County memorial association was formed to raise the remainder of the $2,000 needed to purchase the monument. The names of the soldiers were re-incised in 1926. IAS files contain a related article from the Centreville Daily Iowegian, July 24, 1926 and an excerpt from "History of Appanoose County."
