She wears a gray off-the-shoulder dress adorned with a pink flower on the neckline, a patterned shawl draped over her shoulders, and a gold cross around her neck. Her dark hair is worn in long ringlets that frame her face.

Companion portrait to that of her husband, Richard Henry Taliaferro, of Copiah County, Mississippi. Mrs. Taliaferro was the daughter of Edwin Rice Brown and Sarah Howard, the niece of Mississippi Governor Albert Gallatin Brown. Portrait reputedly painted en route back to Mississippi from a trip to New Orleans, Louisiana.
