A bronze eagle with its wings spread is perched on a bronze globe atop a granite shaft that is adorned with the United States shield and oak leaves. The granite shaft rests atop three steps.

The memorial honors those from Winchendon who died in World War I. It was erected by the Winchendon American Legion Post with more than $9,000 collected from local citizens. IAS files contain a copy of the Massachusetts Historical Commission Form C - Object questionnaire dated July 1986.
