    Description:
Full-length figure of a Civil War soldier. He wears a uniform including overcoat and cap. The cape of his coat is thrown over his proper right shoulder. A cartridge box is attached to the proper right back of his waist. A long bayonet case hangs from his waist on the proper left side. He holds a rifle with both hands; the butt of the gun rests on the ground in front of him. The zinc sculpture stands atop an elaborate zinc base. The shaft of the base is topped with a decorative Corinthian column top. Below that are reliefs of bunting draped and secured at the corners. On the front of the shaft is a G.A.R. badge in relief. On the proper left side is a figure of a mounted cavalryman. On the back is an anchor and cable. On the proper right is the United States coat of arms. On each side of the shaft near the bottom is a relief portrait medallion featuring the bust of Gen. Sumner (proper right side), Farragut (back), Logan (proper left side) and on the front, Sherman. The shaft ends in four steps. The lowest step is sculpted to simulate rough-hewn stone.
