    Description: 
    A World War I soldier stands in uniform holding his gun in the ready position with proper right hand on the trigger and proper left hand on the base of the barrel. He wears a helmet with chin strap, a gas mask and a canteen. The sculpture is mounted on a short concrete base on top of a sand rock base. A chain fence surrounds the sculpture.

    The sculpture was installed by American Legion Post #94 of Flatonia with donated funds. Aluminum marker in front of sculpture reads: THE AMERICAN DOUGHBOY/DEDICATED THE 12TH OF NOVEMBER 1989,/THIS MEMORIAL HONORS THE MEN AND/WOMEN OF THE FLATONIA AREA WHO SERVED/IN THE ARMED FORCES OF THE UNITED/STATES OF AMERICA. IT STANDS IN/PROUD REMEMBERANCE OF THEIR ACHIEVE-/MENTS IN HELPING DEFEND OUR COUNTRY/AND TO PRESERVE ITS FREEDOM, AND/ESPECIALLY TO THOSE WHO GAVE THEIR/LIVES SO THAT THIS NATION REMAINS/FREE.... THIS MEMORIAL SHALL FOR-/EVER REMAIN A HUMBLE TRIBUTE TO THEIR/GREAT SACRIFICE./THE DOUGHBOY:/WILLIE J. MIGL, U.S. ARMY, WORLD WAR I/ARTIST & SCULPTER (sic):/GENE A.     The figure of the soldier was modeled after the artist's father-in-law Willie Migl. Wigl died as a result of being gassed in France during World War I. Willie's look-a-like son, Bowdy Midl, modeled for the artist. The sculpture was dedicated during the American Legion Veterans Day ceremony on Nov. 12, 1989.
