    Description: 
    A figure of a World War I infantryman advancing through the stumps and barbed wire of No Man's Land. He holds a grenade in his raised proper right hand, and originally held a rifle in his proper left hand.

    Provenance: 
    Formerly located Riverfront Park, Evansville, Indiana until 1937.
    Formerly located Sunset Park, Evansville, Indiana 1928.
    Remarks: 
    The sculpture was erected by the Kiwanis Club in Sunset Park in 1928, but was moved to a warehouse in the early 1960s. In 1967 it was placed in front of the American Legion Funkhouser Post #8, but was eventually moved inside the American Legion building. The original base was a large pile of rocks with an inscription plaque that read: In grateful recognition of the patriotic service rendered by the men and women of Evansville during the World War 1917-1918 (This inscription plaque is missing). IAS files contain newspaper articles from The Evansville Press, Nov. 7, 1992, pg. 11 and The Indianapolis Star, Nov. 17, 1928.
