This sculpture was originally located in Tillis Park. After frequent vandalisms, including the destruction of the figure's rifle, the City of Fort Smith moved the sculpture to a warehouse. The piece was restored and relocated to in front of the American Legion building ca. 1989-1990. IAS files contain copies of articles from a special edition of The Chamber Monthly (Spencer, IN), Feb. 1991, which is devoted to the many doughboy sculptures by Viquesney.
