Hedges, nephew of Seth Hedges, whose father, Job C. Hedges, was killed in the Civil War. The sculpture has been subject to vandalism and has been shot at. In 1990/1991, it was repaired by Robert Shepard and Paul Inshco, at the Foster Wheeler lab. A new scabbard was made to replace the missing one; the rifle was reshaped; and bullet holes filled in with lead.
