    Remarks:
The sculpture commemorates Andrew Taylor Still (1828-1917), who discovered osteopathic principles of medical treatment and founded the first osteopathic college, the American School of Osteopathy in Kirksville, Missouri in 1892.
The sculpture was begun in 1913, sponsored by the Sojourners Club. The project stalled because of lack of funds, but was picked up again in 1916, by Dr. George Still who helped raise the remaining funds needed. The sculpture was originally installed in front of the hospital at Osteopathy and Jefferson Streets. In June, 1935, the city paid for the statue to be moved to the more visible Adair County Courthouse grounds, the site originally selected by the artist. The sculpture was restored in August of 1986 by Jim Sterritt. The restoration project involved sandblasting, cleaning, treatment with an acid to restore color, application of a sealer to protect the copper, and application of wax. The sculpture was rededicated on Founder's Day, 1986.
