    Description: 
    Cast black granite sculpture of two whales swimming. Relief images of a crab, starfish, snails and seaweed appear on the back of the sculpture. Relief images of a scallop shell, and seaweed appear on the front of the sculpture. The sculpture stands on a round concrete base in the center of a fountain pool.

    Remarks: 
    The sculpture was commissioned by the city for the San Francisco building in the 1939 Golden Gate International Exposition on Treasure Island. After the exhibition the sculpture was moved to Golden Gate Park. The sculpture was placed in its current position in front of the Academy of Science in 1957 and was dedicated in 1958.
