A uniformed World War I soldier seen in an advancing position, holding a grenade in his upraised proper right hand, his rifle in his proper left hand. He wears a helmet, a gas mask bag hanging around his neck, and an ammunition belt. The soldier stands on a pyramidal base of mortared stones.
