Description:
A crucifixion scene with four figures. The central figure is Christ on the cross. At the base of the cross is a kneeling figure flanked by two standing figures. All of the figures, with the exception of Christ, are clothed in loose fitting, ground-length robes. Christ is depicted nude with the exception of a loin cloth. His head is turned upward and to the proper right. The standing figure to Christ's proper right appears to be female. She wears a hooded robe. Her hands are clasped together at waist level.
The standing figure to Christ's proper left is a male, with long flowing hair. The figure's hands are clasped in front of his chest. He is barefoot. At the base of the cross, a female figure kneels or sits, with legs folded undeneath, hands clasped in lap. The figure has long flowing hair and bare feet.

Remarks:
Former Parish priest, Father Camile Delaux, saw the statue while serving in World War I in France. Upon return to St. Clara, he set about raising funds to purchase the statue, which cost $1,500. IAS files contain related article from Parkersburg News (Parkersburg, WV), April 1992, pg. 1A, 9A.
