Medium:  Stone (white), on brick, mortar, and concrete base with a stone plaque. Dimensions:  Sculpture: approx. 6 1/2 ft. x 42 in. x 22 in.; Base: approx. 86 x 120 x 102 in. Inscription:  (On stone plaque inset on front of base:) ST. JOHN BOSCO/TAUGHT/THE CHILDREN OF THE/PEOPLE/IN/CHRISTIAN AND PAGEN/LANDS/THE DIGNITY OF LABOR/IN FIELD AND WORKSHOP/IN THE INTEREST OF GOD AND MAN unsigned Description:  A sculpture comprised of three figures, the largest of which is the center figure of St. John Bosco. He has longish, shaggy hair, and his head is slightly bowed. He is dressed in a long clerical robe, buttoned at the front and opened slightly at the bottom as if the wind has caught it. He wears an elbow-length cape with a high banded collar fastened at his neck. His proper left hand touches the back of a young girl who stands at his proper left. She is wrapped in a blanket with a fringed border and a floral pattern. She appears to clutch the blanket tightly with her proper left arm. Her proper left arm is bent sharply so that her hand is near her face. Her upturned face gazes into the face of St. John Bosco. She wears a feathered Indian headress and is barefoot. Her hair is wavy and flows below her shoulders. She stands on a slightly elevated portion of the plinth. St. John Bosco's proper right hand rests on the proper right shoulder of a young boy. The boy wears a suit and tie and holds a book at his side in his proper right hand. He holds his proper left hand on his heart. He has wavy hair and his head is turned upward as he gazes into the face of St. John Bosco. The book he carries has reliefs of what appear to be religious figures on the cover. The boy stands on a slightly lower section on the plinth. The sculpture rests on a rectangular brick and concrete base with a stepped bottom.
