Description:
Equestrian statue of Stonewall Jackson stands on a square base. The figure is in full uniform, including cap and cape. His stallion, Old Sorrel, stands erect with all four hooves on the ground.

Remarks:
Commissioned by the State of Virginia, Conservation Commission, for $25,000 upon the transfer of the battlefield property from the Manassas Battlefield Confederate Park, Inc. and the Sons of Confederate Veterans to the United States. The site is the approximate position Jackson was holding at First Manassas, July 21, 1861, when he earned his nickname of "Stonewall." IAS files contain a document from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts entitled "Prospectus: The Stonewall Jackson Monument Sculpture Competition and Exhibition," pertinent correspondence, and additional materials about Jackson and the monument. The monument is on the National Park Service List of Classified Structures (LCS no. 10788). IAS files contain a copy of the LCS report form.
