(Names of war dead are inscribed on sides and back of the base)
    Description: 
    A Confederate soldier stands with proper left foot forward, arms crossed, proper right arm over proper left arm. He holds his hat in his proper right hand. A haversack and a canteen are slung on his proper right hip. The soldier has a moustache and he is wearing cavalry boots and a CS oval type belt bucket.

    Remarks: 
    The monument was installed through the joint efforts of the J.E.B. Stuart Camp of Confederate Veterans, the Clarke Cavalry survivors, and the Stonewall Chapter of Daughters of the Confederacy. The monument is in memory of the men of Clarke County who died in the Civil War. IAS files contain transcription of the names appearing on the sides and back of the base. IAS files contain an excerpt from Thomas D. Gold's "History of Clarke County Virginia," Berryville, VA, 1914, pg. 313-317.
