    Description: 
    A Union soldier atop a tall, stepped base. The figure stands with his weight on the proper right foot, a rifle resting on its butt to his proper left. His proper left hand is wrapped around the barrel of the rifle; his proper right hand is on his proper right hip. His kit includes a small pouch on his belt on the proper right side and a bag adorned with the letters 'U.S,' hanging from his belt in the back."

    Formerly located Main Street, Poultney, Vermont 05764 1915-1959.
    Remarks: 
    This monument was originally located adjacent to the grounds of Green Mountain College at the end of Main Street in Poultney. In 1959, to allow access through a new gate, the statue was moved to Poultney Town Cemetery in East Poultney. The monument is a memorial to Col. Judson A. Lewis and those who defended the Union in the Civil War. Judson graduated from Troy Conference Academy (forerunner to Green Mountain College) in 1860 before joining the army. The Monument was given to the town of Poultney in 1915 by Judson's widow.
