    Description: 
    A simple tapered 16 1/2 foot shaft atop the die cap supports a 16 inch diameter ball with a simulated split to represent the two halves of the Union that brought on the conflict.

    Remarks: 
    This monument is reportedly the first erected in Vermont to honor soldiers from Deby who served in the Civil War. It was erected and dedicated in 1866, after much debate over its location. It overlooks Hinman Pond to the east.
