General Granbury, a native of Mississippi, was the leader of the Granbury organized company, the Waco Guards, who participated in several crucial battles of the Civil War. The monument was erected by the General Granbury Chapter No. 683, United Daughters of the Confederacy. It cost was $1,350, with $1,000 appropriated on July 1, 1913 by the State Legislature. It was imported from Italy, bought from Youngblood Monument Company of Waxahachie, Texas, and erected by Jim Youngblood.
