    Description: 
    Full-length portrait of Henry Smith. He wears dress of the 1830's including a suit and overcoat. His proper left thumb is hooked into his vest watch-pocket. His proper right arm is slightly raised as if gesturing. The sculpture stands atop a square granite block. Behind the sculpture on either side rise two tall pink granite shafts. The sculpture and shafts stand on a concrete platform paved with pink granite.

    Remarks: 
    Smith was Governor of the Provisional Government of Texas. The $7,500 sculpture was funded with federal funds allocated by the state of Texas to commemorate one hundred years of Texas independence. IAS files contain related excerpt from Harold Schoen's "Monuments Erected by the State of Texas to Commemorate the Centenary of Texas Independence", Austin: Commission of Control for Texas Centennial Celebrations, 1938, pg. 67.
