PIERCE/BORN/FEB. 5, 1839/DIED/DEC. 18, 1870 (On the other side of base, incised:) ABEL/SON OF/A. H. & F. PIERCE/BORN/JULY 17, 1870/DIED/AUG. 25, 1870 (On back of base: inscriptions) unsigned Description:  Shanghai Pierce stands facing east. His proper right hand holds his hat at his side and proper left hand clutches the lapel of his coat. Subject:  Portrait male -- Pierce, Shanghai -- Full length Occupation -- Farm -- Rancher Dress -- Accessory -- Hat Object Type:  Outdoor Sculpture -- Texas -- Blessing Gravestone Sculpture Owner:  Administered by Blessing Cemetery Association, Blessing, Texas 77419 Located Old Hawley Cemetery, 3 miles south of Blessing, Blessing, Texas Remarks:  Sculpture marks the grave of A. H. Pierce (1834-1900) and his family. Shangai Pierce, built one of the Texas' largest land and cattle business with his brother, following the Civil War. Cost of this sculpture was $2,250.
