Remarks:
The sculpture commemorates Bishop Martin Marty, first Bishop of Sioux Falls. The sculpture may have been designed by Mrs. Carl Zimmerman, who sculpted model of church's facade (Apostle of the Nation). Works was possibly fabricated ca. 1948-1949, at Daprato Statuary in St. Louis. It is believed the facial features of Bishop Marty were derived from an original oil painting of the Marty located in St. Paul's Convent. IAS files contain related excerpt from "The Little Bronzed Angel," vol. XXVI, no. 8 (Nov. 1949), a church newsletter. SOS! survey lists media as concrete; church newsletter gives media as carved stone.
