    Remarks:
Commissioned by the Illinois Retail Liquor Association in memory of Peter Jakstas, Association member and officer. The Association also funded the statue's transportation from Italy to the Sky Ranch for Boys. The statue honors Father Don Murray, founder of the Sky Ranch for Boys and Sturgis, S.D. native. Known as the "Flying Padre," Father Murray worked with the Wings Spread programs which used aviation to rehabilitate young boys in trouble. On Oct. 11, 1975, Father Murray and 15 year-old Kevin Blakely were killed in a plane crash. A plaque reads: A MAN NEVER STANDS SO STRAIGHT/AS WHEN HE STOOPS TO HELP A BOY." IAS files include a related article from the Rapid City Guide, May 4, 1978. For related reading, see South Dakota Magazine, Sept./Oct. 1993 and the Sturgis Tribune, Nov. 2, 1977 and May 3, 1978.
