Provenance:
Formerly located Westcott Village, Rhode Island 1914-1967.
Remarks:
Commissioned in honor of Union soldiers from Pawtuxet Valley and originally located in Westcott Village, from 1914-1967. The soldier is known locally as "Jerry" after Jerry B. Foster who headed the committee which commissioned the monument. The statue was restored in 1990 by the West Warwick Veterans Council. Work done at the Paul King Foundry included repatination and the removal of the remnants of graffiti and acid rain. In December 1991, the statue was toppled from its base, resulting in a bent rifle and a crack below the bottom of the jacket. IAS files include a related article from the Providence Journal-Bulletin, Dec. 27, 1991.
