Remarks:
The memorial was installed through the efforts of the Colonel James Miller Post No. 273 of the Grand Army of the Republic. Cost of the sculpture was $1,525. Funds for the monument were raised in the community. Land for the monument was donated by the Weatherly school board. The sculpture was restored in the late 1960s. In Nov. 1972 the sculpture was toppled by vandals and damaged. The sculpture was repaired, repainted, and reinstalled later that same month. IAS files contain copies of related articles from Weatherly Herald, Nov. 1 and 6, 1972 showing the sculpture toppled from the base and as it looked following the restoration and reinstallation; and Nov. 7 and 14, 1974 detailing the history of the sculpture. IAS image files show the sculpture when it was placed in storage at the Weatherly Borough Garage.
