The soldier stands atop an elaborately decorated monument that is composed of a hexagonal column adorned with symbols such as a cross, a star, a moon, a heart, a diamond, and flowers. Below the column is a square middle section adorned with a half-circle panel on each side, a polished marble cannon barrel at each corner, and a border of marble stars around the bottom.
