Description:
Four figures within a shrine depict Mary's apparition to the three children at Fatima in 1917. Figure of Mary is central, wearing robes and veil, her hands raised to waist level with a rosary in her proper right hand and a scapular in her proper left hand. She stands on clouds and on her chest is the Sacred Heart, done in Indian red granite. Mary is mounted upon a square base, with ten feet below ground. The girls, Lucia and Jacinta, wear veils and kneel before Mary with their hands pressed together. Francisco, the boy, kneels with his hands in prayer. The shrine area is accented by rocks and shrubbery and enclosed by a low, six-sided brick retained wall that is bordered by a concrete walkway with benches. The figures are lit by spotlights.
