    Remarks:
The sculpture is dedicated to those who died defending the United States in all wars. The sculpture was installed in honor of the city's World War I Veterans by the American Legion Auxiliary, John E. Sipes Post No. 505. In 1988, the sculpture was corn cob blasted by the Cuetara Monument Company and the figure's helmet strap was replaced. The sculpture was rededicated on Memorial Day, May 3, 1988. IAS files contain a copy of the Nov. 11, 2008 article from The Progress, "Origins lost over time...'Doughboy' monuments honor WWI veterans" which mistakenly notes that the Curwensville doughboy monument is not listed in the Inventories of American Painting and Sculpture database. This doughboy monument was documented and added to the Inventories database through the Save Outdoor Sculpture! survey in 1995.
