HE IS CHARGING OVER THE TOP TOWARD THE ENEMY LINE,/CARRYING FULL FIELD EQUIPMENT. HE WAS ERECTED AS A MEMORIAL/TO THE WAR VETERANS, "BY THE PEOPLE." HE ARRIVED IN HENRYETTA/ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 26, 1923./THIS MEMORIAL PLATE BEARS INSCRIPTION, "TO THE MEMORY OF/ALL IN THIS AREA WHO PAID THE SUPREME SACRIFICE IN ALL WARS./WAS CAST, 'BY THE PEOPLE', THE YEAR OF 1991". Figure of a World War I infantryman advancing through the stumps and barbed wire of No Man's Land. He holds a grenade in his upraised proper right hand and a rifle in his proper left hand.

Remarks:
The sculpture was acquired by the city in 1923 and installed in 1925 at the intersection of 4th and Main streets. In late 1969 or early 1970, it was relocated to its current site, when Main Street was resurfaced. The bronze plaque on the front of the base was added in 1991.
IAS files contain transcription of newsclippings from Henryetta Daily Standard dated Sept. 27, 1923; Sept. 28, 1923; and Nov. 26, 1923 (discussing fund raising efforts and arrival of the sculpture). IAS files also contain transcription of newsclippings from Henryetta Daily Free Lance dated June 30 and July 5, 1925 (discussing dedication of sculpture); and from Henryetta Daily Freelance dated Oct. 23 and Oct. 26, 1969 (discussing relocation of sculpture).
