    Description: 
    A full-length statue of Major General James B. McPherson dressed in his Civil War uniform stands atop a granite base erected over his grave. McPherson's hat is tipped to his left, and a sword in a decorated scabbard hangs from his left hip. His proper right arm is extended to the southwest, pointing with proper right index finger, as he looks to his proper left. In his proper left hand he holds a pair of field glasses at his side. His proper right foot rests on a broken cannon.

    Remarks: 
    The sculpture was erected over McPherson's grave by the veterans of his command, the Society of the Army of the Tennessee, in 1881. IAS files contain excerpts from Elizabeth J. Whaley's "Forgotten Hero: General James B. McPherson," which describes the dedication; and a newspaper article from the Clyde Enterprise (Clyde, Ohio), July 17, 1985, which discusses the 1985 restoration of the sculpture.
    The inscription on a nearby marker reads: McPherson Cemetery/Since 1824/Named for Major General James B. McPherson,/Buried here July 29, 1864. Here also are graves of/George Burton Meek, U.S.N., First American Service-/man killed in the War with Spain; Congressional/Medal of Honor Recipients Charles H. McCleary,/Civil War, and Rodger W. Young, World War II; Emma/Anderson, Mother of Author Sherwood Anderson./Clyde Community Council/and/The Ohio Historical Society/1976/3-72.
