Remarks:
The tanker S. S. John D. Gill was launched in November 1941 by the Atlantic Refining Company; the ship was on its second voyage when it was torpedoed and sunk, March 12, 1942. Catalino Tingzon was from the Philippines and had to be buried at Southport, as the Philippines were then under Japanese control. IAS files contain copy of dedication booklet and information sheet giving history of the sinking of the S.S. John D. Gill.
