    Description: 
    A figure of a Union Civil War soldier standing on picket duty atop a twenty-foot tall square zinc base. He holds his rifle before him with both hands resting on the barrel, his left foot forward. The base is adorned with the names of Civil War battles in raised letter, dedicatory plaques, and names of the 180 from the county who lost their lives during the Civil War.

    Remarks: 
    The Lowville Soldier's Memorial was erected to honor Lewis County residents who died in the Civil War. The memorial was erected by Post 200 Guilford D. Bailey Grand Army of the Republic. Efforts to raise funds began in 1867, and it took sixteen years to raise the $3,500 to purchase the memorial.
