Mounted atop a square shaft is a full-length figure of a Civil War soldier dressed in his uniform. He holds the barrel of his rifle by his side at chest level with his proper left hand, the barrel resting against his thigh and the stock placed by his foot. The soldier's proper right hand is placed on his hip. The shaft has castellated corners around the middle and is placed atop a square base with two steps at the bottom. On the lower front of the base is a relief of crossed flags and rifles.
