    Remarks:
The monument is perhaps the only surviving marker from a series laid out across New Mexico to mark the Ozark Mountain Trail auto route in 1921. Lake Arthur High School periodically repaints the marker in its school colors, white, red and black. 1995 SOS! survey reports the sculpture was last painted by the high school classes of 1985 and 1986. For further reading, see the Antesia Daily Press (Antesia, NM), Oct. 17, 1993.
