    Description: 
    Full-length figure of a Continental soldier in full uniform. He holds a musket by the barrel with his proper right hand. The butt of the gun rests on the ground in front of him. His proper left arm is akimbo. The granite sculpture stands on a tall rough-hewn granite base which sits on a single rough-hewn granite step.

    Remarks: 
    The sculpture was paid for by the State of New Jersey as part of a program marking historic spots in Union County. Cost of the sculpture was $1,800. The parcel of land on which the sculpture stands was deeded by the Presbyterian Church to the State in 1905. Although the state owns the sculpture and land, the Presbyterian Church assumes responsibility for the sculpture. The sculpture marks the Battle of Springfield which took place June 23, 1780.
