Remarks:
Designed by Eric M. Merrifield, a harbor engineer of East London, South Africa, for use in the construction of breakwaters that are subject to deep sea wave action. This sculpture is the first one made as part of a U. S. Army Corps of Engineers contract. IAS files contain a newsphoto and caption of the sculpture's placement from Trends Newspaper (Wayne, NJ), Oct. 1980. For a related article see: The Civil Engineering Contractor, (April 1970).
