Remarks:
According to the will of Frank L. Snow, a "residue of his estate" was bequeathed to the Town of Swanzey for the purchase and installation of a soldiers monument in memory of the soldiers and sailors who had given their lives in war. Mr. Snow died in 1922 and at a 1923 town meeting voters agreed to accept the bequest on the terms Mr. Snow had set. The monument along with the state inheritance tax totaled $3,596.79. Although Mr. Snow made no mention of sculpture the eagle was added. Monument was dedicated on Memorial Day in 1924. IAS files contain a transcription of names on plaque on base. IAS files contain a related article from the Keene Evening Sentinel, May 31, 1924; and a related excerpt from David Ruell's typescript, "The Public Sculpture of New Hampshire," Concord, New Hampshire: New Hampshire Historical Society, 1980, pg. 203-204.
