Description:
Full-length figure of a Union infantry soldier. He wears a uniform, including jacket, trousers, boots and gaiters. A bayonet is attached to the proper left side of his belt and a blanket roll is slung over his proper left shoulder. A powder pouch is on a strap slung over his proper left shoulder and a canteen hangs from his proper right shoulder. He holds a musket by the barrel with both hands. The butt of the gun rests on the ground in front of him. The granite sculpture stands atop a base consisting of a tall granite shaft set on a three-stepped platform.

Remarks:
Funds for the memorial were raised through the efforts of Francis L. Gerald, a local doctor who raised $600 for the memorial base. W. R. Park and Henry Bixby contributed funds for the purchase of the sculpture in honor of Lieut. Joseph Park who was killed in an airplane crash. IAS files contain transcriptions of names listed on base.
