    Description: 
    Full-length portrait of Hannes Schneider. He is skiing and wears a sweater, pants, and lace boots strapped to skis. He holds a ski pole in each hand; the poles are raised behind him. His knees and arms are bent and he holds a skier's crouched position. The bronze sculpture is set on the sloping side of a granite boulder base.

    Remarks: 
    Hannes Schneider is considered to be the "Father of Modern Skiing". He founded the world's first ski school at St. Anton, Austria in 1907 and was director of the Hannes Schneider Ski School in Mount Cranmore from 1939-1955. The sculpture was unveiled for Cranmore's 50th Anniversary. Cost of the sculpture was approximately $40,000. Funds were raised through tax-deductible donations from businesses and local individuals. IAS files contain copies of related articles from Evening Citizen (Laconia), Feb. 6, 1989 and The Reporter (North Conway), Feb. 15, 1989.
