    Remarks:
A group, that eventually became known as The Legion's Choral Club, was organized on February 9, 1925, to raise funds to purchase and erect a memorial honoring the soldiers from Hill "who served in the World War and other wars." The funds were raised through entertainment events. The War Memorial was erected in 1928. It was transferred from Old Hill Village, to the new village of Hill when the town moved out of the river valley. The eagle has been replaced twice. The original eagle was made of copper. It was vandalized, repaired, and eventually replaced by four small, gilded aluminum eagles which faced each other from the four corners of the compass. They were replaced by the present eagle at an unknown date. The present eagle is usually removed and stored during the winter. The upper plate of the plaque on the front of the base may be newer than the other plaques. IAS files contain transcriptions of names on plaques. IAS files contain related excerpts from Mildred T. Morrill's,"Hill: The Old and the New, 1754-1976;" and "Hill Village on the Pemigewasset," Hill Historical Society, 1991, pg. 68-69, which includes photo of original eagle.
