    Remarks:
The Soldiers Monument was dedicated on September 10, 1914 to commemorate the men of New London, New Hampshire, who served in the "War of Independence", the Spanish War, and the Civil War. The Major W. A. Messer, who served three years as a private in the 11th N.H. Volunteer Regiment, is noted for originating the plan for the monument and seeing its completion. The R. P. Stevens Company received $2,239.00 for the monument. In 1919, the town voted to add the names of World War I veterans to the monument for a cost of $350.00. IAS files contain a transcription of the names listed on base.
