Inscription:  (Front of base:) ERECTED/IN MEMORY OF/OUR NATIONS DEFENDERS unsigned Description:  Standing full-length uniformed Civil War soldier. He is wearing a buttoned knee-length coat; waist-length cape covering his back; a belt with a bayonet and other attachments; and a billed hat. The soldier is holding the barrel of a rifle at chest level with both hands. The butt of the rifle is on the edge of the plinth. The soldier is standing in front of a tree stump. The base is tiered. The center portion of the base where the inscription is located is polished granite on all sides.
