Description:
Allegorical female figure, representing Liberty, stands holding a torch aloft in her proper right hand. A book or tablet is crooked in her proper left elbow. The figure wears Classical-style robes and a star-like crown. Sculpture stands on a pedestal which stands in a star-shaped planter.

Remarks:
This is one of nearly 200 small replicas of Bartholdi's Statue of Liberty (IAS record 76003645) placed around the country as part of the Boy Scouts of America's 40th anniversary (1950). According to a March 1986 Fact Sheet from the Boy Scouts of America (on file in IAS), the idea for the project originated with Jack Whitaker, then Scout Commissioner of the Kansas City Area Council. The copper statues were manufactured by Friedley-Voshardt Co. (Chicago, IL) and purchased through the Kansas City Boy Scouts office.
The Butler sculpture was restored in 1986 for the centennial of the original Statue of Liberty and as a town community betterment project. The corners of the self base have been welded. IAS files include a rededication program a letter to scoutmasters inviting scouts to attend the rededication.
