    Description:
A monument constructed of Georgia marble consisting of four steps leading up to a tall shaft surrounded by four pedestals which jut out, one from each side of the shaft. On the front pedestal is a depiction of a woman in a long dress kneeling to care for a wounded soldier. The woman supports the soldier's head with her proper left hand and holds a cup in her proper right hand. The soldier sits with knees slightly bent and his proper left hand supporting much of his weight behind him. On the back pedestal is the standing figure of a woman, wearing a long dress and clasping her hands at shoulder height as if praying. On the proper right pedestal is a Confederate artilleryman holding the rammer staff for his weapon in his proper left hand. Behind him is a stack of cannon balls. He is either saluting or shading his eyes with his proper right hand. On the pedestal on the proper left is the figure of a Confederate soldier in the process of drawing his sword with his proper right hand. His rifle is slung across his back. Atop the main shaft of the monument is "a statue of a Confederate artillery officer observing the fire of his unit." He stands with his proper right hand raised to his chest and his proper left hand by his side. On the front of the shaft is a relief carving of a Confederate flag.
