Sculpture was carved with a chain saw after the tree was struck by lightning. Although the sculpture stands under a canopy, it still is subject to animal and environmental damage. SOS! survey gives the media as spruce and an attached source, "Monumental Minnesota," by Moira Harris ([St. Paul]: Pogo Press, 1992) lists the media as fir.
