MASON/POST NO. 248/G.A.R./ERECTED BY THE /SOLDIERS AND CITIZENS (Around bottom of base, on each side, names of battles:) SHILOH/FRANKLIN Description:  A marble figure of a Union Civil War soldier standing at parade rest atop a square granite base. The soldier holds a musket in front of him with both hands resting on the barrel of the rifle. Over the years, vandals broke off the hands and musket; the hands were never recovered, but parts of the musket were found. The musket has been repaired and new hands have been fabricated.
