    Description: 
    Full-length figure of a uniformed Union soldier stands at parade rest atop a decorative pedestal and tiered base. The figure wears a long caped coat, cap and moustache and holds his rifle in front of him with both hands around the barrel and the butt near his proper right foot. Decorative elements on the base include reliefs of an eagle over a downward-pointing star, crossed swords, crossed flags over crossed cannon barrels and a stack of cannon balls and the United States Seal.

    Remarks: 
    Commissioned by the Three Rivers Monument Association who collected $900 through public subscription starting in Oct. 1891. In 1928, the monument was moved from its original location of Main Street and M-60 to Bowman Park, on the initiative of the mayor, A. T. Van Alstyn. IAS files contain excerpts from the book "Three Rivers The Early Years," Three Rivers Sesquicentennial Comm., 1986 and a photocopy of the monument in its original location.
